Apple Painting

How we all started, clean and orderly. :)

How we finished! Who lets an 18 mo old paint anyway?!

As I've mentioned before, I love fall! One of my favorite things about it (since teaching preschool), is all the cool fun stuff you can do for art in the fall. One of my favorites is apple painting! This is the 2nd year I've done this with Wyatt, I didn't do it when he was Cora's age and now I know why. Usually I do a yellow apple and yellow paint too, but I wasn't able to find any yellowish apples this time. Probably a good thing, Cora didn't need ANY more paint! We started off by talking about the different colors of apples, guessing what colors they would be inside, and then cutting them open to see the "star". Then the goal was to stamp with them more than paint, and make prints of the different shaped apples. Of course it turned into finger (and arm and face) painting after a few minutes, but they got the idea and had fun. Total huge mess, but I've discoved it works well to time the end of an activity like this to when daddy will be home, and then he can either take them straight to the tub or keep them out of the kitchen while I clean up. If we do it again this year, I think it might go down while Cora is napping!

I'm going to need to get fun arts and crafts ideas/play day ideas from you when Three is old enough to do this kind of stuff. You are so creative - who would've thought? I'll keep that one stored for later use - hope the paint wasn't too bad to clean up! :)
