Yep, this was Wyatt's first response yesterday when I told him he was going to the dentist, "I don't want him to pull my teeth out!" Not sure why he was so worried, Mike and I both recently came back from our dentist visits with all of our teeth, but somehow he had gotten this idea. After reassuring him that would not happen, he changed his tune to "oh, I don't want him to poke me." Poor guy - terrified of being "poked" lately. We chatted, calmed his fears a little and went about our day.Honestly I really thought he'd freak out and barely let them look inside his mouth before bolting out of the chair. However, to my suprise, he did great! He was reserved and still a little unsure, but totally compliant! They counted, scraped, polished, even did those yucky flouride trays and "Mr. Slirpy" - the suction thingy, didn't scare him either. The hygenist and dentist checked him out and he sat in the chair until they told him he was done. Of course, as at every good dentist office, he got to choose a prize, a red monster truck in this case, and he was thrilled with that and his new toothbrush and floss. Yes - floss - I have to say I'm not thrilled at adding this one to the bedtime routine. My fingers in his little mouth, drool spilling out everywhere, and likely he won't really want to stand still for it - but hey they've go to learn somehow! So, with the success at the dentist office we decided to go sticky up those perfectly cleaned teeth. Shh, don't tell the dentist - what kind of mother would do this!!!! I took him to get ice cream (chocolate peanut butter with sprinkles), and he got to sit and eat it at the ice cream store, which was a big deal! All in all it was a success!
